About

Arthur Jules is a French visual artist based in Amsterdam. He works between Belgium and the Netherlands.

Cartography and architecture keep finding their way into Arthur’s practice. His installations are materialized through the making of carpets and textiles, as well as sound pieces, videos, and sculptures. Today, his research is evolving toward more sculptural forms, combining construction materials, metal structures, light, and atmospheric elements such as smoke. These spatial experiments open the way for stories to emerge, first taking shape as maps, plans, and annotations before developing in space.
His work functions as a visual note on different kinds of landscapes: collective, conceptual, social, and topographic.
Many of his compositions draw from descriptions of real or imagined places, forming what he calls “potential maps” that conceptualize the world around us.

The maps, whether topographically or conceptually inspired, are platforms for encounters between art forms and ideas. He shapes environments where narratives engage in dialogue with our living spaces, where contemporary issues come to light through a new visual language.
Collaboration and exchange are important in Arthur’s work.. He frequently joins forces with other artists to develop artworks, workshops and exhibitions.

Next to his practice, Arthur works as a scenographer on projects such as exhibitions, performances, and films.
